Paint Day #2: Body & Bed Final Finish
Our painter, Chris, laid down a glassy smooth coat of L-87 Pearl White on the body. Nice job!
Trim pieces and chassis have also been finish coated, and are looking sharp.

Paint Day #1: Treasure Chest
The final finish has been applied to the treasure chest area, in the original color.
01/27/2006
Suspension Mods
Both the front beam, and the transaxle along with the rear suspension have been removed.
The front beam has been sandblasted and rust-proofed, and we are awaiting a set of dropped spindles.
The rear spring plates have been sent out as well; We will be converting to independent rear suspension.
01/17/2006
Replacement Fuel Tank
Due to the severity of the rust on the tank, it will need replacement- We are restoring a tank from our stock to install.

Body Awaits Paint, Other Repairs Continue
The body has been block sanded once more and once the primers are cured, we will apply the top coats.
Below Left: Dan straightens the front bumper, it will be sandblasted, and painted with the rest of the truck;
Below Right: The steering gear is being sent out for a rebuild.

Sanding in Progress
This week, The doors and lids were test-fitted to the body to make sure any last minute repairs were completed.
Every inch of the body has been dry sanded and is being primed once more. Most body shops skip this step!
(Above): Fresh primer being applied! (below left): Josh sands the truck's dash and window frames.
(above right): Doors and lids in place!
12/15/2005
Fresh Primer!
All panel straightening has been completed, and the entire body has been sprayed with top quality over-metal (gray)
and high-build (peach) primers. A second coat of high-build will be applied after sanding to provide a rich final finish.
11/23/2005
More Parts Arrive
While we are gearing up for bodywork and paint, more parts have been acquired.
Drive train and suspension options are being discussed, looks like we're
going for some real horsepower on this one.
This front pedal pan is the best one we've ever seen!
11/14/2005
Bed and Cargo Area straightening
First order of business in the body shop is to straighten the older section of the bed, remove some pits and dents,
seal factory seams as well as our repairs, and finish it with one more coat of rustproofing.
It will also be primed, coated with top quality chip proof sealer, and painted to match the body.
11/04/2005
Bed and Cargo Area Repairs Complete:
Below: Rust repair is almost complete!
The bed repair panels have been neatly welded in place; both cargo area and
bed have been thoroughly cleaned off and rust-proofed. Next up is the chassis.
Above: Just like new! The rust-proofing is complete. Labor intensive, but well worth the effort.
These sections are now ready for the body shop. We're almost over the hump!
Above: Outside, one more time for a thorough cleaning!
Above: Good clean welds, and lots of them give this bed a new lease on life.
10/31/2005
New Cargo floor installation:
Below: Before the new floor is installed, sub-frame is cleaned and coated with rust-stopping chassis paint. Then
floor panels are spot welded to the frame, just like the factory did it.
10/20/2005
Rust Repairs on Bed and Treasure Chest Continue:
Below: the entire floor of the treasure chest area has been removed as well, and is being replaced.
Rust damage has made the metal simply too weak to meet our standards. Sub-structure is in great shape.
(Above: Grinding out factory spot welds makes for a clean install later.)
(Above: No integrity in this piece, i.e. too much rust, not enough steel. Swiss cheese, anyone?)
(Above: Good solid frame!)
10/16/2005
Cleaner & Cleaner:
10/06/2005
Rust Repairs on Bed:
The rusted panels in the front section of the bed have been carefully removed, and will be replaced.
Bed subframe will be sandblasted, sealed, and painted the original color.
9/29/2005
Clean rust-free metal:
With the panels super-clean, and rust holes repaired, we are now ready to begin straightening and bodywork on some sections.
This is where extraordinary paint-jobs begin! You will see some panels in etch primer very soon,
as body panels in this state are difficult to keep dry and clean.
9/23/2005
Rust repairs continue:
Left side rocker sections are removed and replacements are initially tacked in place. Cab floor sections are
being replaced on both sides; Sandblasting and sanding of body continue. Replacement rear bumper has arrived!
9/12/2005
Media blasting of body continues:
Preparations continue for bodywork and metal repairs. Sandblasting is done in small sections,
one or two panels at a time, and with proper care to minimize metal fatigue and exposure to humidity.
9/5/2005
Media blasting of body:
Parts of body shell are sandblasted and prepared for metal work. After closer examination of the metal's integrity,
a few more places will need repairs than initially thought.
9/2/2005
Metal repair on body continues:
Dash repair is now complete; Work begins on rocker panels
Below: old rocker panel must be carefully removed to ensure proper fit of the replacement.
Inner rocker will be patched/replaced as necessary also at this time.

8/20/2005

and they have been primed with an over-metal Epoxy.
All the best materials are used here to ensure a top quality finish.
8/2/2005
Metal work continues:
The doors receive a quick sandblast around the edges, and are handed off to
Dave (below) in the body shop to be cleaned and prepped for repairs.
8/2/2005
Metal work is in full swing:
Gates, cargo doors, engine lid and rear apron are being repaired.
Sandblasting of parts is being done also as necessary.
