Assembly in full swing

Th we are working full time on assembly- parts are arriving daily at this point, and things will

come together quickly from here on-  Transaxle is being installed, brake and suspension systems are

being serviced, and the engine is ready for assembly.  (lower left) bumpers were painted white and will

be installed shortly.  Front end has a cool retro look.  More to come!

Fresh paint!

This week we sprayed the top-coat in customer's choice of  L20B Brilliant Orange, and L90D Pastel White, both original VW colors.

Assembly to begin Monday May 5, more updates to follow. Stay tuned!

Crunch time: Almost ready for paint!

Engine has arrived, paint supplies are in, just a few more finishing touches and rust-proofing before we spray the top-coat.

Rear seat cushions have been removed for re-upholstery.

Recently, Steve's son Max (12) informed us that this is "his" camper.

Check out the new page title, Max! :-)

For a hint of the new color combination, look closely at photo #1 (below left).

(Below) We're also discovering more neat features of this camper,

like it actually has a larger lower bunk than a Westy!

Fresh Primer

We've finished rust repair with a set of new battery boxes and several metal patches.  After much sanding, Our painter Dave

sprays on a coat of over-metal primer to seal the surface and prepare for paint.

Beginning Body Work

New and rebuilt parts continue to arrive.  After a more thorough inspection, we determined the body must be stripped to bare metal.

This will ensure all rust and damaged spots are repaired, and will allow for a quality finish.

More Disassembly

Engine disassembly is complete. The starter and alternator have been sent out for rebuild.; tin work is ready for the powder coater;

Transaxle has been removed. We will begin bodywork this week by removing the old layers of paint.  Stay tuned!

Disassembly

Engine has been removed and is being disassembled.  All engine sheet metal, and fan housing will be powder-coated for a factory fresh finish.

Windows, bumpers, fuel tank, and all trim have been removed.  Replacement transaxle and axle shafts have just arrived, and more parts are on the way.

We've now brought the camper in to dry out, and begin work.

This unusual Contempo camper conversion is here for restoration work and looks to be a challenging but rewarding project.

We will be updating it with a more modern 2.0 liter engine, and a few more custom touches as we go. More to come!

Below:  On arrival-  Registration stickers from 1990 tell a story of long term... storage.  :-)

Rust areas are typical, most mechanical items including the engine are seized, but the floors and sub-frame are in good shape.
